December 23, 2018 - Fly to Sky Manor, NJ

This Sunday we were headed to Sky Manor Airport (N40), New Jersey.  We had four planes:  Bruce B. in the RV-3, Myself and Mark B. in the RV-7, Tom, Rachel and Chuck in the Maule and Ron in the Cessna 150.

Chuck took this picture of Bruce from the Maule.

And another one.

The Maule and RV-3 heading north over Maryland.

Passing by Van Sant Airfield (9N1), a grass strip in Pennsylvania, north of Philly and just south of our destination Sky Manor.  I landed here a couple of times years ago in the Citabria.  You can get rides or lessons in a Stearman, Cub, 1928 Travel Air, Citabria or Ercoupe here.  Plus there are gliders and motorcycles here as well.  Have to fly here in the RV-7 one of these days.

On downwind at Sky Manor Airport.  The ramp is to the right.

About to enter the Sky Cafe!

I haven't been here in a few years.  On my last visit I remember it being a little rundown.  Imagine my surprise walking in and the place was packed!  We had to sign up on the waiting list and were issued a beeper.  They must have renovated the place.  Plus the menu was now upscale, serving mostly gourmet burgers.

Despite our large party, we were seated relatively quickly.  The service was great, food was great.

Close encounter with an Airport beacon.

My passenger today was Mark B., who has a Piper Arrow.  I warned him beforehand that they called this the $70,000 ride.  Sure enough, after today he wants an RV!

Chuck has had enough riding in the Maule and is discreetingly abandoning  it for Ron's Cessna 150.

Flying back home past Van Sant airport again.

When we had first arrived at the airport, this good looking kitten approached us, clearly hungry.  We think somebody had just abandoned it.  It was still here, shivering in the cold, when we arrived back from our Sky Manor flight.  Bruce felt sorry for it, and thinking it wouldn't survive long here at the airport, took it home.  The kitten was very friendly.  Bruce was able to find a great home for it with a nice family with kids so it all turned out very well.  Both family and kitten are delighted with each other.
